When You Need a Helping Hand…
by David Peters

Wood’s Powr-Grip® is pleased to announce the addition of the Powr-Press Vacuum Hold-Down to its growing line of vacuum tool solutions.

The Powr-Press was originally conceived and designed to provide a fully adjustable, hands-free tool with strong hold-down action for automotive side moldings, glue-on windshield moldings and body emblems. In essence, the Powr-Press acts as a third hand. It assists automotive body repair specialists and hobbyists by keeping parts in place without having to hold them manually or apply masking tape while adhesive is drying. The Wood's Powr-Grip Powr-Press mounted on a 3" vacuum cup.

The heart of the Powr-Press is the Wood’s Powr-Grip vacuum cup that brings the whole apparatus together and holds it in place: The accessory comes standard on our TL3PWP and LJ45PWP vacuum cups; and it can also be added to many other 3" [8 cm] or 4-1/2" [11 cm] Powr-Grip mounting cups. These cups provide ample holding power and can be attached to any smooth, nonporous surface, whether flat or slightly curved. Unlike some other hold-down methods, these vacuum cups will not mark or damage most surfaces.

The Powr-Press is sold separately, or can be purchased in a package with a 3" or 4.5" mounting cup.A stainless steel bracket is fastened to the top of the vacuum cup with the aid of an adjustment knob, which enables the bracket to slide or swivel as necessary to hold a part in position. Each end of the bracket is equipped with a 3" [8 cm] threaded screw with an adjustment knob on top and a swiveling pressure foot on the bottom. Once the vacuum cup has been secured to the surface, the bracket can be swung into its holding position. The adjustment screws are then turned to apply the desired amount of pressure without marking or damaging most surfaces. In this way, the Powr-Press attaches quickly and provides a firm, reliable, non-slip grip.

As is the case with all Wood’s Powr-Grip mounting cups, the Powr-Press vacuum cups feature a red-line indicator on the pump, which warns the user in the event of vacuum loss, to eliminate unexpected pop-off. A built-in check valve allows the user to repump without having to remove the tool while it is in use. Lift tabs on the vacuum cup provide instant release, and each cup is supplied with a protective cover. The Wood's Powr-Grip Powr-Gress mounted on a 4.5" vacuum cup.

The Powr-Press is available in two ways:

  • As an add-on accessory that will attach to any 3" [8 cm] or 4-1/2" [11 cm] Powr-Grip vacuum mounting cup that is fitted with a 1/4-20 threaded stud measuring 1/2" [13 mm] or longer.
  • As a package, complete with 3" [8 cm] or 4-1/2" [11 cm] vacuum cup with 1/4-20 threaded stud, bracket, pressure screws and protective cover.
