Wood’s Powr-Grip® Introduces the Stone Dolly
by David Peters

The excitement and buzz generated by the introduction of a new product to the market place is invigorating, especially when it saves time, money and a lot of hard work. The new Stone Dolly from Wood’s Powr-Grip is all this and more.

Unique and unlike any other device designed to move stone slabs and countertops, the Stone Dolly has the ability to easily move a load up and down stairs. It has a specially designed rubber-belted skid on each side of the frame. When stairs are encountered, the revolving skids engage the stair surface in such a manner as to allow easy movement of the load, while avoiding damage to the stair surface material. There are many devices available for moving stone slabs, but none of them are engineered like the Stone Dolly with the versatility to handle stairs. Wood's Powr-Grip's Stone Dolly also comes equipped with adjustable control handles with rubber hand-grips that add to the ease of load transportation. With proper placement, they enable the operators to ergonomically configure the dolly for pulling with maximum leverage and the least amount of effort.

Wood's Powr-Grip's Stone DollyThe Stone Dolly is a sturdy, human-powered device used for the transportation of stone slabs. It is ergonomically designed and robust enough to handle back-breaking loads. In the shop, it is great for moving heavy stone slabs from station to station or loading them onto trucks for delivery to the installation site. Whether moving the stone on the flat, up a ramp or up and down stairs, the Stone Dolly eases the operator's load.

Once the truck arrives at its destination, the Stone Dolly is used to move the stone slab into position for installation. It features non-marking, gray pneumatic wheels which allow it to be maneuvered without scuffing or leaving marks on expensive flooring materials. With a pivoting front wheel, the Stone Dolly can turn in tight places, making even the most difficult deliveries a walk in the park. It also has an end plate that can be swung into place at the end of the load channel. It acts as a stop to facilitate vertical positioning of the stone for entering elevators or narrow stairwells. It even has an attachable caster that can be placed on the bottom edge of the stone to provide additional support in the vertical orientation and additional maneuverability in tight quarters.

The rugged padded channel protects the edge of the stone from damage and was designed to accommodate a stone slab up to 700 lbs. [320 kg] and 2 in. [5 cm] in thickness. When the load is lowered into place on the Stone Dolly, the weight engages an innovative spring-activated set of clamping rollers that gently hold the stone in place. The dolly comes with a ratcheting cargo strap to further secure and stabilize the load.

The Wood’s Powr-Grip Stone Dolly made its debut last month in Las Vegas at the StonExpo. It is slated for production and will soon be available from Wood’s Powr-Grip’s Authorized Dealers.
