Wood's Powr-Grip®─on the Leading Edge of Glass Handling since 1964
Wood's Powr-Grip pioneered the use of hand-held vacuum cups and below-the-hook vacuum lifters in glass handling. We revolutionized the American glass industry when we developed pump-action vacuum cups in the 1960's, allowing glaziers to hold lites securely without lifting them by the edges. These cups featured Powr-Grip's patented red-line indicator, which warns the user of any vacuum loss, and a check valve, which allows the user to restore vacuum without losing a grip on the glass.
Today, Wood's Powr-Grip continues to make glass handling more efficient, ergonomic and secure through innovative engineering. Every Powr-Grip vacuum lifter is equipped with many features to enhance worker safety, such as vacuum gauges with colored zones to indicate whether vacuum is sufficient for lifting. Indicator lights and warning buzzers likewise signal when a vacuum lifter is or is not ready to move the glass. And with the addition of our Dual Vacuum System, Powr-Grip has reduced the risk of falling glass, which could otherwise result from breakage or other workplace accidents. From factory floor to final installation, glass handling is easier and less dangerous with hand-held vacuum cups, below-the-hook vacuum lifters and other products by Wood's Powr-Grip.
Hand-Held Vacuum Cups
Designed specifically for glass handling, Wood's Powr-Grip vacuum cups are the standard of the glass industry and used by glaziers around the world. These pump-style hand cups put a handle where you need it on flat glass, curved or bent glass, auto glass and even some pattern glass. Unlike regular suction cups, Powr-Grip vacuum cups use a pump to create a much more reliable hold. A few pump strokes attach a vacuum cup gently and securely to the glass. Because the full face of the vacuum pad contacts the glass, stress is reduced, allowing a Powr-Grip vacuum cup to be used on glass of almost any thickness with little risk of damage. Release is easy and complete, with no dangerous after-stick. Powr-Grip's broad range of vacuum cup models includes diameters from 1-1/4 to 10 inches [32-254 mm] and handles for every kind of glass handling, including fenestration, windshield replacement, processing and more.
Below-the-Hook Vacuum Lifters
These AC, DC or air-powered vacuum lifters move windows and large lites with the aid of forklifts, cranes or overhead hoists. Wood's Powr-Grip manufactures a full line of rotators, tilters, rotator/tilter combinations, vertical and C-frame vacuum lifters, in styles for glass installation or glass processing.
Powr-Grip vacuum lifters provide effective solutions for every challenge in residential and commercial glazing: On-board DC power systems provide cord-free operation at the job site. Movable vacuum pads and extension arms allow MRT and MRTA Series vacuum lifters to handle glass of nearly every size and shape. Similarly, our modular Channel Lifters are expandable to meet a variety of glass installation needs. Powr-Grip also enables glaziers to install windows under overhangs, using the CB1 Counter-Balancer or vacuum lifters with Adaptable Length Lift Bars, such as the MR1611LDC and MRT4-DC's (see LB6ALO option). With the addition of our Remote Control System (EO8RC option), installation lifters can be used to glaze multi-story buildings or to construct curtainwalls, while avoiding the expense and inconvenience of scaffolding or scissor lifts.
Wood's Powr-Grip offers a wide variety of vacuum lifters for glass processing, as well: MR and PR Series rotators feature continuous edgewise rotation to easily load and turn lites on edgers or bevelers. MT and PT Series tilters distribute glass weight equally across the pad frame, reducing the risk of glass damage when transferring float glass to upright storage racks or performing similar tasks. Loading and unloading tempering ovens is made easy using rotator/tilters like the MRPT89AC. Among the choices in vertical lifters, the VLGG Series lifters provide support across the glass surface when handling jumbo lites, and VLPL Series lifters attach and release glass in seconds, to feed high-speed processing machinery. Finally, C-Frame Series vacuum lifters transfer glass directly into and out of shipping crates. Built to handle the day-to-day demands of the production line, these durable and dependable vacuum lifters help speed production, reduce operator fatigue and injuries, and minimize glass damage.
Other Glass Handling Products
In addition to hand-held vacuum cups and below-the-hook vacuum lifters, Wood's Powr-Grip manufactures products to address a variety of other glass handling needs: The DoorJack enables a single person to remove, transport or install glass doors with ease. Like a vacuum vise for glass, Positioners provide continuous edgewise rotation and four tilt angles for effortless glass positioning when attaching hardware or assembling small IG units. The Drill Press Vacuum Base permits precise glass drilling from any position, whether horizontal or vertical. The Stowaway Tilt Table is a large glass cutting table which also folds to a compact profile for transport to job sites. And the Ladder Lift makes second story window installations easy, without the need for cranes or scaffolding.
